Kenneth Silvey ‘56
Kenneth Silvey, 82 of St Augustine, Florida formerly of Atlanta died Monday, January 30, 2016 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas George and Flo Silvey.Survived by his wife Brenda Kay Silvey of 35 years and grandson John Allen Bagwell in St Augustine, FL.Surviving Children are Douglas Silvey residing in Gainesville, FL; Steven and Lani Hastings in Atlanta, GA Jamie Graham in Ellijay, Ga. His son Daniel Silvey of Fort Lauderdale, Fl is deceased. Other Grandchildren are Stephen and Michael Daniel Silvey; Hampton, Madison, and Reagan Hastings. Other close family members were Connie and Raymond Bennett of Jacksonville FL; Carney and Norma Freeman of Chattanooga, TN; Steve and Betty Freeman of Chattanooga.
Ken was born in Monroe, Louisiana August, 11, 1934. He attended Bryd High School and Southeastern College (now named Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.) He was in the Sigma Nu Fraternity of which he has been a faithful Alumni. He earned his Bachelor’s in Political Science. In lieu of graduate school he decided to go to the Service.He enlisted in the Navy and served in Navy Intelligence for 4 years. After the service, he began his career with Liberty Mutual Insurance in the Personal Sales Market in Miami, Fl in 1960. He had a very successful business career with Liberty Mutual for 43 years. Most of his career with Liberty Mutual was spent in the Southern Division of Atlanta, Georgia after building successful offices in Miami where he started, Nashville, TN, and then the Southern Division office in Atlanta hiring and developing many successful sales agent contributing the Liberty Mutual rise in the industry. He was committed to all his recruits with a special devotion to and from Richard Zeigler and Michael Overstreet.
He made lifelong friendships with Liberty Managers all over the country in all Divisions. Retiring in the fall of 2003 at age 70, he then moved to St Augustine, Florida from Alpharetta, GA for the remainder of his life. The family will receive friends at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel from 12-2 Saturday.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
