The Rye Family Makes $10,000 Donation to the Epsilon Sigma Chapter Scholarship Account
Memphis, TN – Scott ’83 and Ruth Rye ’84, parents of Colin Rye ’16, have donated $10,000 to the Epsilon Sigma Chapter Scholarship Account held at the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation for use by the Sigma Nu House Corporation of Memphis. Scott pledged the donation after visiting the house and meeting with the Active Chapter and House Corporation leaders.
Scott said, “I have many fond memories of the Sigma Nu house, from studying with fellow pledges, to dances and theme parties, to just hanging out with my fraternity brothers. I even lived in the house my junior year, which was quite an experience. Sigma Nu has been a big part of Colin’s life at Rhodes as he took on leadership positions within the fraternity and the IFC. We want to see the tradition of excellence continue, and a structurally sound and attractive house will contribute to that goal.”
The Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, secures and provides enduring resources to support the educational and charitable initiatives of Sigma Nu Fraternity, and gifts made to the Epsilon Sigma Chapter Scholarship Account are tax-deductible. The Educational Foundation may make qualified housing grants to or for the benefit of the Chapter if an expense associated with the house is educational in nature. The Foundation may loan funds from the account to the House Corporation if an expense associated with the house is not educational in nature.
Brad Hastings, President of the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation said, “Sigma Nu Fraternity and Educational Foundation are pleased and honored to support the alumni of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter. Epsilon Sigma Chapter has been in continuous operation at Rhodes College since 1934, and we are very proud of the many accomplishments achieved during that time.”
Jim Durham ’67, President of the Sigma Nu House Corporation of Memphis, said, “The Rye Family’s gift is very timely as we’re about to finish our stabilization phase of house improvements. A fine chapter deserves a fine house, and the House Corporation is working hard to make sure gifts such as this do just what they are intended – spark the renovation of the Sigma Nu House for the benefit of all our young men who will use it. We are sincerely grateful for the Rye Family’s generosity.”
